Mill scenes

Yesterday I photographed a few details here in the mill. The bricks looked like they were covered with frosting since there are so many layers of paint. The valve has interesting shapes and textures, which to me is adequate justification for a photograph.

Panes in the Ice

While having soup at the Loaf & Ladle in Exeter today, we admired the ice coating the inside of the windows. It is nice to be able to make some ice photos without going outside in the bitter cold.

First Frost 2012

Usually at this time of year the subject of my photos would be snow related, but we don't have any snow. January 1 we did have a nice sparkly frost, and since I didn't finish raking the leaves last fall, there was a nice collection of frosty leaves to capture before the rising sun melted the ice crystals. Even the annoying knotweed looked pretty nice.

Ice Forms

It is interesting to see the shapes and patterns created as ice forms on the edge of a body of water. Here a little stream trickles into the lake, suspending grains of sand in the ice as it freezes.

Creek Farm

These images are from a walk at Creek Farm, Portsmouth, along Sagamore Creek.

I like the short lived sculptures created when water splashes and bubbles form. There was a lot of splashing outside my studio window this morning when it was pouring, so I leaned out and captured some of it.

Last weekend while attending the opening of a photo exhibit at the Wentworth - Coolidge Mansion in Portsmouth, we wandered around the grounds and enjoyed the sculpture displayed there.
