I walk across the Makem Bridge every day without noticing the spider webs suspended between the railings. Yesterday morning was foggy and damp, and the webs were all highlighted with sparkling water drops, which made it obvious that some spiders are more skillful weavers than their neighbors.

Deerfield scenes

Nearly every year we attend the Deerfield Arts Tour, and visit at least a few of the open studios. We love to hike on the property of potter Al Jaeger, which includes ponds, stone walls, Al's sculptures, gardens, and beautiful natural scenes. These photos are from our walk last Saturday.

Yesterday we took a windy walk on York Beach. I enjoyed the patterns made by the sun and ripply water in little tide pools, the impressions made by the water running across the sand, and the prehistoric looking bird tracks in the mud. It was a beautiful day.

Lilies

We have three colors of lilies blossoming at the same time in our yard. For some reason the deer don't eat them. Apparently the vegetables are a distraction.

Lady's Slippers

Thirty years ago we had a lot of these in our neighborhood. Then, a local kid pulled them all up. We had only seen a few of them since that time, but while walking last weekend we noticed eight or nine. Hopefully they are making a recovery so we can look forward to seeing them every spring.

Apple blossoms, dandelions, violets, and a pathetic little bleeding heart are adding some color to the yard, which is nice to see after the long white season.
